The players
The three pillars of cross-border security
Three key players, united in their commitment, work together to ensure effective cross-border management: a joint judicial office, a police centre and a cooperation structure. Their collaboration makes it possible to tackle security challenges in a coordinated and optimal way.

The strengths
Our strengths for security without borders
When it comes to security, the EMR’s greatest asset is the excellent cross-border cooperation that has resulted from years of joint work. As a result, great progress has been made in this area thanks to cooperation between the emergency services, police forces and judicial authorities of the three countries.
The challenges
Anticipating and acting on the shared challenges we face together
The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on cross-border cooperation within the EMR. From the outset, it became clear that crisis policy was often implemented at national level. Although cooperation worked on the ground, the decisions taken on either side of the borders were not always coordinated.
Strategic cooperation in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine sees itself as a platform for cross-border cooperation. In the fields of mobility, security and health, we pool needs, connect stakeholders and develop joint solutions.
Mobility
Crossing borders. Strengthening ties.
Cross-border mobility is an essential prerequisite for the labour market, the economy and everyday life.
The EMR brings the needs of the population, policymakers and the administration into decision-making processes and works closely with partners such as the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV).
Through participation in Euregional working groups, fares, ticketing and services are being further improved.
Security
Taking responsibility together
Security issues call for coordinated action across borders. The EMR connects the players concerned and strengthens existing cooperation, particularly in the fields of emergency services, police and justice.
Health
Coordinating infrastructure. Guaranteeing care.
In the field of health, the EMR is committed to improving cooperation between hospitals and systems and to making efficient use of the resources available.
Our goal
We are strengthening the Euregio Meuse-Rhine as an interconnected, safe and high-performing place to live.
