PLUS Change is a European research project on the sustainable development of land use in the context of climate change. The aim of the project is to develop new approaches to make land use choices more resilient to the effects of climate change. This also includes aspects of biodiversity and social well-being.
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine takes part in the project through the Three Countries Park and contributes its experience of cross-border cooperation in the fields of landscape, climate and spatial planning.
Cooperation within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine
Within PLUS Change, partners from various European regions work together. The Three Countries Park is taking part as one of 12 case study partners. It represents the cross-border context of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine by organising workshops with local stakeholders.
The central question is how to shape landscapes in the future so that they are better adapted to challenges such as:
-
Climate change and extreme weather events
-
Biodiversity loss
-
Conflicts over land use
-
Water shortages and flooding
Project priorities
PLUS Change combines research and practice and, in collaboration with regional partners, develops new approaches to sustainable landscape planning.
This includes in particular:
-
Developing strategies for climate-resilient landscapes
-
Exchanging knowledge and experience between European regions
-
Involving citizens and local stakeholders
-
Integrating the principles of environmental justice and innovation into planning and governance
The project relies on close collaboration between science, administration and society.
Contribution to the Euregio Meuse-Rhine
By taking part in the PLUS Change project, the Euregio Meuse-Rhine is strengthening its role as a model region for cross-border cooperation in the fields of climate and landscape.
The Three Countries Park helps to disseminate the project results in the region and, together with the partners, to develop practical prospects for the sustainable, climate-resilient development of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
Partners
The project’s lead partner is CzechGlobe, in Czechia. The Euregio Meuse-Rhine takes part through the Three Countries Park.
