Governance

The mission

Representing interests. Organising cooperation.

One of the core tasks of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR) is to take part in cross-border governance structures. There, we represent the common interests of our partner regions at regional, national and European level.

Our role

From institutionalised structures to bilateral formats

Depending on the section of the border, we work within institutionalised structures or in flexible bilateral formats. The EMR often plays a coordinating role, both for the partner regions and for the municipalities of the Euregional area.

At European level

Putting our issues on the European agenda

At the same time, we put issues on the European agenda when they cannot be resolved at local or national level. To this end, we are in contact with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions, as well as with networks such as the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR).

Areas of work

Practical solutions with our neighbouring regions

Together with our neighbouring regions, we are committed to practical solutions, for example on issues of double taxation, funding for the Border Information Points or the removal of legal obstacles.

Our priorities

  • Intergovernmental cross-border cooperation (Grensoverschrijdende samenwerking - GROS)

  • Participation in European networks

  • Participation in Interreg programmes and EU policy

  • Cooperation with city networks such as MAHHL+ and AG Charlemagne

Our goal

We are strengthening the Euregio Meuse-Rhine as a European border area that is capable of action, visible and well connected, and creating better framework conditions for people, institutions and municipalities.
