Education, training and labour market

The context

Opportunities without limits

The shortage of skilled workers is being felt throughout Europe. At the same time, the Euregio Meuse-Rhine offers special opportunities: its inhabitants can learn, study and work across borders, often just a stone’s throw from home.

Different languages, education systems and labour markets exist side by side here, creating new opportunities for personal and professional development.

Support from school to working life

The Euregio Meuse-Rhine supports young people throughout their educational and professional journey:

  • Promoting cross-border training opportunities

  • A smoother transition between school, higher education and the labour market

  • Stronger links between education and business

Cross-border commuters

Working in the neighbouring country

The Border Information Points (GrenzInfoPunkt) and the Cross-border Job Placement Services (Service Grensoverschrijdende Arbeidsbemiddeling) are an important element.

They provide information on working in the neighbouring country, help with job searches and defend the rights of cross-border commuters.

Cross-border university cooperation

Cooperation in higher education is also growing steadily. The universities and higher education institutions of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen their cooperation. Students can:

  • Study across borders

  • Have their credits recognised (ECTS)

  • Gain international experience

EMR Education HUB, building connections

With the EMR Education HUB, we are creating a point of contact for everyone: teachers, pupils, students and professors, as well as businesses.

The centre embodies our vision of an interconnected and coherent Euregional education landscape at every level, from nursery school to higher education or vocational training.

Our goal

We are creating a seamless area for education and work without borders and strengthening the region’s future viability.
