Three Countries Park - Open space without borders
The Three Countries Park (P3P) is a cross-border cooperation network dedicated to landscape, nature and spatial planning at the heart of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
It connects regions in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Three Countries Park was founded in 2001 as part of a European cooperation project. Since then, authorities and organisations from the three countries have been working together to promote the cross-border development of landscape quality and open spaces, in line with the European Landscape Convention.
A component of cooperation within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine
The Three Countries Park partnership is closely linked to the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. While the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, as a cross-border organisation, coordinates cooperation between the regions, the partnership focuses on topics related to landscape, nature, climate and sustainable spatial development.
The Three Countries Park thus serves as a platform for exchange and cooperation between authorities, specialist institutions and regional partners. Together, they develop visions, guidelines and projects to protect the landscape of the Euregio and develop it sustainably.
Cooperation priorities
The partners of the Three Countries Park work in particular on the following topics:
-
Protecting and developing the cross-border landscape
-
Establishing and connecting cross-border green infrastructure
-
Strengthening climate resilience and creating “sponge landscapes”
-
Exchanging knowledge and providing impetus for Euregional and European projects
-
Highlighting the importance of the landscape for quality of life, health and tourism
Contribution to the sustainable development of the Euregio
Through its work, the Three Countries Park contributes to the long-term preservation and development of the natural and cultural landscapes of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. At the same time, it strengthens cross-border cooperation between the regions and fosters a shared Euregional identity.
The Three Countries Park thus shows how landscape and environmental policy can be successfully implemented across national borders.
