Euregional Police Alliance - Shared security in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

The Euregional Police Alliance is a new initiative to strengthen cross-border security cooperation in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.

In February 2026, the police authorities of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen their cooperation in the border region.

The aim of the alliance is to strategically bring together the existing cooperation arrangements between police forces and judicial authorities and to link them more closely. This should make it possible to combat cross-border crime more effectively and to strengthen public security in the Euregio.

Overarching cooperation

The new police alliance serves as an overarching framework for various existing cooperation arrangements in the region. These include in particular:

  • NeBeDeAgPol, the Police Working Group in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

  • EPICC, the Euregio Police Information and Cooperation Centre

  • EURIEC, the Information and Expertise Centre for tackling subversive crime

  • BES, the Bureau for Euregional Cooperation in Criminal Matters

These initiatives already make an important contribution to cross-border police work, information exchange and judicial cooperation.

The Euregional Police Alliance aims to link and coordinate their work strategically in the future.

Joint responses to cross-border challenges

Crime does not stop at national borders. In a region as closely interconnected as the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, where people work, travel and live across borders every day, close cooperation between the security authorities is particularly important.

The police alliance creates a framework for:

  • Exchanging information and specialist knowledge more quickly

  • Developing joint strategies against cross-border crime

  • Better coordinating existing networks and cooperation arrangements

  • Further strengthening cooperation between the police, the judiciary and the administration

Security, a shared concern of the Euregio

With the Euregional Police Alliance, security cooperation in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine is moving to the next level.

This initiative shows that Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands are working together to keep the region safe and to meet shared challenges across borders.

The Alliance thus complements the existing structures of Euregional cooperation and helps to strengthen the security of citizens in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine in the long term.
