Overview

The Province of Liège, one of the largest and most populous provinces in Belgium, is governed by a provincial council elected every six years.

Nine of its municipalities belong to the German-speaking Community, making it a bilingual territory in direct contact with Germany.

Cross-border priorities

  • Tourism: encouraging people to discover the neighbouring areas and showcasing a shared heritage.

  • Security: the Governor is responsible for public order, emergency planning and police operations.

  • Cross-border police cooperation that is already part of everyday practice.

  • A remarkable architectural heritage, from Liège-Guillemins station to the Palace of the Prince-Bishops.
