Our partner regions
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine connects regions in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands to form a shared area for living, working and doing business in the heart of Europe. Short distances, cultural diversity and close cooperation characterise this special border region. Our partner regions, the Region Aachen Zweckverband, the Province of Liège, the Province of Limburg (B), the Province of Limburg (NL) and the German-speaking Community of Belgium, each bring their own strengths and together shape a dynamic, model European region.
Stronger together, in Europe
What unites our partner regions is the will to cooperate closely across national borders. Whether in business, education or security, the Euregio Meuse-Rhine stands for exchange, innovation and mutual understanding.
Together, we are shaping an open, diverse and forward-looking place to live in the heart of Europe.
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine brings together five partner regions from three countries, where three languages are spoken.

Region Aachen
In western Germany, in the heart of Europe, in the tri-border region of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine: the Aachen Region combines urban life, diverse rural areas and European neighbourliness as an everyday reality. It comprises the City of Aachen, the StädteRegion Aachen and Kreis Düren, Kreis Euskirchen and Kreis Heinsberg. Some 1.3 million people live in its 46 towns and municipalities, over an area of around 3,500 square kilometres.
As a major hub for science, innovation and technology, the region offers ideal conditions for developing new ideas and putting them into practice. It can count on excellent research, innovative companies and strong networks. RWTH Aachen University, a University of Excellence, the JUPITER supercomputer at Forschungszentrum Jülich and a strongly technology-oriented SME base illustrate the strength of our region at the crossroads of three countries.
Thanks to the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen, CHIO Aachen and the Aachen Christmas market, the region also enjoys international prominence beyond research and science.
Province of Liège
With its large territory and sizeable population, the Province of Liège is one of the main provinces of Belgium. It has 84 municipalities, nine of which belong to the German-speaking Community, and around 1.1 million inhabitants over an area of 3,862 km².
Within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, the Province is strongly committed to security and cross-border cooperation, at various administrative levels. The aim is to strengthen exchanges and to promote the shared cultural heritage of the region. Numerous initiatives, particularly in the field of security, show the growing importance of cross-border cooperation.
Province of Limburg (Belgium)
The Belgian Province of Limburg occupies a strategic position between major European economic areas such as the Ruhr, the Flemish Diamond and the Dutch Randstad.
Thanks to excellent transport links via motorways, railways and the Albert Canal (one of the most important waterways in Belgium), Limburg is a logistics gateway to Europe. Modern business parks, science parks and innovation centres such as Corda Campus, BioVille and EnergyVille strengthen the knowledge economy. At the same time, Limburg appeals with its high quality of life, its cultural heritage and its attractive leisure opportunities.
Within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, the Province of Limburg is therefore strongly committed to innovative cross-border economic projects and to cooperation.
Province of Limburg (Netherlands)
The Dutch Province of Limburg is the southernmost province of the country and has a strong international outlook. Located on the borders with Belgium and Germany, it maintains close ties with its neighbours.
The international dimension is particularly evident in education and research: Maastricht University and several specialised academies attract students from all over the world.
It is therefore no surprise that, within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, Dutch Limburg has dedicated itself to the education sector, which is always closely linked to the labour market.
With its four Brightlands campuses, Limburg offers an innovative environment for research and entrepreneurship in the fields of health, materials, food and smart services. At the same time, the province abounds in natural and cultural landscapes, from the Meuse lakes (Maasvallei) to the hilly south (Heuvelland).
German-speaking Community
The German-speaking Community combines a rural quality of life with European openness. The region benefits particularly from cross-border cooperation within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
The proximity of several universities, a dense transport network and many small and medium-sized enterprises open up a wide range of prospects for professionals and businesses. At the same time, eastern Belgium, with the High Fens, its lake landscapes and its lively towns, offers an attractive setting for living and working. The Euregio makes it possible to pool regional strengths and to work together on pragmatic solutions to the challenges of the border area.
Within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, the German-speaking Community is committed to cooperation in the field of health.
