CrossCircular is a project under the European Interreg Meuse-Rhine funding programme that strengthens cross-border cooperation in the field of the circular economy.

At the heart of the project is cooperation between five universities in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine:

  • Maastricht University (NL)

  • RWTH Aachen University (D)

  • FH Aachen (D)

  • Zuyd Hogeschool (NL)

  • University of Liège (B)

Together, they are developing innovative approaches to drive forward the transition to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy.

Cooperation between universities and businesses

CrossCircular links research, teaching and practice across national borders. The participating universities work closely with businesses and public stakeholders to develop practical solutions for the circular economy.

The priorities are as follows:

  • Developing innovative circular products and processes

  • Supporting businesses in their transition to sustainable business models

  • Exchanging knowledge, research results and good practice

  • Setting up a Euregional innovation network

Added value for students

CrossCircular places particular emphasis on involving students.

This gives them the opportunity to work on real-world issues in a cross-border, practice-oriented setting. Thanks to the cooperation between the higher education institutions, they benefit from:

  • International learning and project formats

  • Direct contact with businesses and professional partners

  • Work in interdisciplinary and international teams

  • An insight into sustainable innovation and the circular economy

Students thus acquire key skills for their future in a sustainable European labour market.

Relationship with the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

CrossCircular is part of the Interreg Meuse-Rhine programme and strengthens the Euregio as a shared area of knowledge and innovation.

The project shows how the higher education institutions of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine can work together to combine innovation, sustainability and cross-border cooperation.

Contribution to sustainable development

By focusing on university cooperation, innovation and education, CrossCircular is helping to make the Euregio Meuse-Rhine a model region for the circular economy.

At the same time, the project strengthens the links between education, research and business and opens up new prospects for the next generation in a sustainable European border region.
