Connect2Cycle is a project under the European Interreg Meuse-Rhine funding programme which aims to develop cross-border cycling infrastructure in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
The aim of the project is to better connect and develop the existing cycle path networks in order to create a coherent, attractive and safe network for everyday journeys and leisure cycling. In a region where many people cross borders every day, sustainable mobility plays a central role.
Cooperation in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine
Within Connect2Cycle, partners from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands work closely together. The Euregio Meuse-Rhine is involved in the project as an associated partner.
In this capacity, the Euregio supports networking between the partners and the dissemination of the project results, and helps to ensure that the measures developed are incorporated into Euregional mobility and tourism development.
Project priorities
Connect2Cycle focuses on improving and interconnecting cycle paths across national borders. This includes in particular:
-
Extending and interconnecting existing cycle path networks
-
Creating new cross-border links
-
Improving the safety and quality of infrastructure
-
Promoting cycling as a sustainable means of transport
Added value for cross-border tourism
Connect2Cycle brings particular added value to cross-border tourism.
A better-connected cycle path network will make it easier for visitors to discover the Euregio Meuse-Rhine as a coherent region, regardless of national borders. Attractive, well-designed routes link nature, towns and cultural attractions in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
The project thus strengthens sustainable tourism, extends the length of stays and creates new opportunities for regional value creation along the routes.
Contribution to the Euregio Meuse-Rhine
Connect2Cycle helps to develop the Euregio Meuse-Rhine as a well-connected and sustainable border region that is attractive to tourists.
Through the cooperation of the partners, supported by the Euregio as an associated partner, a coherent cycle path network is taking shape, benefiting mobility, quality of life and tourism in equal measure.
