Bocageland Landscape Park - A landscape without borders in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

The Borderless Bocageland Landscape Park is a cross-border landscape park at the heart of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. The area connects rural regions of Belgium and the Netherlands and includes parts of the Voerstreek (Flanders), the Pays de Herve (Wallonia) and the Heuvelland in South Limburg.

The region is characterised by a typical bocage landscape: a mosaic of meadows, fields, hedgerows, orchards, small woods and historic paths. This centuries-old cultural landscape system still shapes the nature, agriculture and lives of the inhabitants of this border region today.

The Bocageland Landscape Park is one of the most valuable and best-preserved cultural landscapes in north-western Europe, but it also faces challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, changes in agriculture and growing pressure from tourism.

Part of cooperation within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

The Bocageland Landscape Park is closely linked to the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. While the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, as a cross-border network of regions and institutions, promotes cooperation, the Bocageland Landscape Park focuses on the joint development and protection of the landscape in this part of the Euregio.

The Euregio Meuse-Rhine, represented by the Three Countries Park, sits on the steering committee of the landscape park and thus supports cross-border cooperation between the participating municipalities and organisations.

Cooperation for the landscape and quality of life

In the Bocageland Landscape Park, municipalities, authorities, farmers and organisations from both countries work together to develop the landscape sustainably. Cooperation focuses in particular on:

  • Preserving and maintaining the characteristic bocage landscape

  • Promoting biodiversity and ecological corridors

  • Supporting sustainable agriculture

  • Developing nature-friendly tourism and creating regional added value

  • Sharing knowledge and experience across borders

A shared future for the cultural landscape

Cross-border cooperation in the Bocageland Landscape Park aims to preserve and develop this unique cultural landscape in the long term. At the same time, the project strengthens cooperation between municipalities and organisations in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine and contributes to the sustainable development of the region.
