High Fens-Eifel Nature Park

The Botrange Nature Park Centre is the visitor and information centre of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park, located in eastern Belgium. It lies at the heart of the High Fens, a unique landscape of raised bogs and heathland in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.

The centre informs visitors about the nature, landscapes and history of the region and is the starting point for numerous hikes and nature discovery activities in the High Fens.

As part of cooperation within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

The High Fens lie in the cross-border natural area between Belgium and Germany and are part of the German-Belgian High Fens-Eifel Nature Park.

Located in a major natural area within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, the Nature Park Centre helps to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the fields of nature, the environment and sustainable tourism.

The Nature Park Centre thus serves as a place of information and encounter where visitors can learn more about the landscape and its importance for the region. A long-standing partner of the Three Countries Park, the nature park works closely with the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.

Tasks and activities

The Botrange Nature Park Centre offers a varied programme around nature, environmental education and sustainable regional development, including:

  • Information and exhibitions on the nature and history of the High Fens

  • Guided tours and educational programmes for visitors, schools and groups

  • Help in discovering the landscape through hikes and nature experiences

  • Raising awareness of the need to protect the fragile bog and heathland landscapes

  • Promoting sustainable tourism in the border region

Discovering nature at the heart of the Euregio

The High Fens landscape is one of the largest and most important nature reserves in Belgium. It is characterised by bogs, heathland, forests and the sources of numerous rivers.

Located at the heart of this natural area, the nature park is an important starting point for discovering and understanding the nature of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. At the same time, the centre helps to promote cross-border cooperation in nature and landscape conservation, notably through numerous small projects supported by the former “People to People” fund, now called the “Small Project Fund” of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
